We
have had the opportunity of helping from 50-150 ward members from the
YSA and married wards each Sunday this past semester with their family
history and Indexing.
This service will continue during the
Winter 2013 Semester but with a little difference; the location has
changed from the McKay Library basement computer lab to the south side
of the Manwaring Crossroads cafeteria. As this
area has no computers the students will need to bring their personal
laptops and a flash drive each time they come.
We are excited to have a large, open, and accessible area in which to help the students at BYU-Idaho.
Our goal is to help each of the
students begin their personal family history by learning to use
FamilySearch Family Tree and RootsMagic with the goal of receiving
temple ordinances for one of their own ancestors. In October
general conference Elder Scott called
temple and family history work ”one work divided into two parts… Any
work you do in the temple is time well spent, but receiving ordinances
vicariously for one of your own ancestors will make
the time in the temple more sacred and even greater blessings will be
received."
We can also help the ward members provide more names for research through learning and doing Indexing.
If you have any questions please contact us. On week days the Family History Center will continue to be open on the second floor of the east will of the McKay Library.
